SoulCycle is a 45-minute indoor rhythm riding class set to music, experienced together in a candlelit room. You ride to the beat, build strength and endurance, and challenge both your body and your mind. It’s cardio, community, and a mental reset — all happening at the same time. And the instructors are exceptional and motivating coaches.
Founded in 2006, SoulCycle has helped define indoor rhythm riding for nearly two decades. What sets the experience apart is the connection — between music and movement, effort and emotion, and the people riding together in the room. That sense of mind-body awareness often carries off the bike, shaping how riders approach their energy, their day, and how they show up beyond the studio.
A SoulCycle class follows a familiar rhythm designed to deliver a complete workout in 45 minutes without feeling rushed or overwhelming.
The Setup (5-10 minutes before class) You’ll arrive early to the studio, get fitted to your bike, and clip in with the help of the studio team using cycling shoes (available to rent or purchase). First-timers are supported every step of the way.
The Warm-Up (5-7 minutes) The lights dim, the music builds, and your instructor guides a gradual warm-up to ease you into the rhythm and get your body ready to ride.
The Ride (about 35-37 minutes)
Class moves through a mix of:
Riding at a variety of paces — including speed and stability work — all guided by the rhythm of the music
Climbs with heavier resistance to build strength and endurance
Optional signature choreography, layered in over time
Upper-body exercises with light weights to strengthen muscles not used while riding and to support posture
Core engagement throughout the ride, supporting balance, posture, and control on the bike
Everything is guided by the beat of the music, turning the workout into a shared, rhythmic experience rather than a traditional fitness class.
The Cool-Down (3-5 minutes) The class ends with stretching and a brief moment of mindfulness to help you recover and carry the energy of the ride into the rest of your day.
It's rhythm-based, not metric-driven. It’s rhythm-based, not metric-driven. Rather than focusing on numbers, SoulCycle emphasizes moving in sync with the music. That rhythm creates focus and flow, and many riders describe the experience as meditative — even therapeutic..
It's a full-body effort The ride is powered by your legs, but upper-body work and intentional choreography bring in muscles you don’t typically use while riding, creating a more complete experience.
The community is built in. SoulCycle classes are designed to be experienced together. The candlelit room, motivational instructor, and shared energy create a sense of connection that keeps people coming back — often for more than just the workout
It supports mental wellness, too. Classes are designed to challenge you physically while also offering mental clarity and emotional release. Many riders leave feeling not just stronger, but more grounded than when they arrived.
SoulCycle is designed for a wide range of bodies, backgrounds, and fitness levels — from complete beginners to experienced athletes. Our classes are:
Beginner-friendly: Instructors demonstrate movements, offer options and modifications, and expect people to be new. You control your own resistance, so the ride can be as challenging or as approachable as you need it to be.
Effective for all ages: We have riders in their teens through their 70s. Because indoor cycling is low-impact, it is easier on joints than running or other high-impact exercises.
Inclusive by design: Our community values diversity and welcomes all bodies and experiences. The focus is on how the ride feels, not how it looks.
Whether you’re looking to build endurance, manage stress, support your overall health, or simply try something new, the experience adapts to you — not the other way around.
Pricing varies by location, but most studios offer single classes (typically $30–40), multi-class packages with per-class discounts, monthly unlimited memberships, and introductory offers for first-time riders.
Cycling shoes can be rented for $3–4 per class or purchased at the studio. For exact pricing, check your {local studio’s pricing page.}
For your first SoulCycle class, you’ll need:
Comfortable workout clothes (fitted styles work best on the bike)
A water bottle (available for purchase at the studio)
Cycling shoes (available to rent at check-in)
An open mind
Arrive about 15 minutes early so the studio team can help you get set up, adjust your bike, and answer any questions before class.
Is SoulCycle just for women? No. While SoulCycle has a strong female community, riders of all genders are welcome and encouraged. Many studios have a diverse mix of riders and instructors.
Do I need to be in shape to try SoulCycle? Not at all. SoulCycle classes are designed for all fitness levels. You control your resistance and pace, and you can take breaks whenever you need them. For many people, SoulCycle is where their fitness journey begins.
How is SoulCycle different from Peloton or other at-home cycling? While at-home options offer convenience, SoulCycle provides the energy of live music, in-person instruction, and community support that's hard to replicate at home. The experience of riding together in a room full of people creates motivation and accountability many riders find irreplaceable.
Can I try a class before committing? Absolutely. All SoulCycle studios offer first-time rider specials or intro packages at discounted rates. This is a great way to experience the class before purchasing a larger package.
Will I keep up with everyone else? SoulCycle isn't a competition. Every rider works at their own pace and resistance level. Your instructor will give you the options to challenge yourself, you can always sit down for more stability, and you are always in control of your own ride.
