Why Nick Turk Is Going Sugar-Free This September
hiladelphia instructor NICK TURK has a major challenge for the month of September: cut out all added sugar for 30 days. Read on to learn more.
First off I need to show you why I am taking a month away from added sugar. My diet on a typical day consists of the following:
One bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel with sweet potato fries and coffee with coconut milk
Reese’s and/or a Dream Bar from Starbucks
Oatmeal with brown sugar, cranberries, and almonds
Yogurt with berries, lemon, and honey
One banana with Jif peanut butter
A sweetgreen caesar salad with extra dressing
Peanut Butter M&M's with a pint of Häagen-Dazs ice cream
This much food equates to about 4,000 calories a day, which I need in order to teach. However, this diet has very little nutrition, and any nutrition I do give myself is completely counterbalanced by all the added sugar.
My friends and family often joke about my diet, and how I can consume so much bad food. It hasn’t left me laughing, however. So I am doing something about it. From September 1st to 30th, I am cutting out added sugar. I simply want to feel good!
I'm asking SoulCycle Philly to join in the No-Sugar Added September Challenge, because I want all of our riders to see what a difference taking out just one ingredient can have on your body and mind. As much as this is a personal challenge for each of us, it's an even greater challenge for the SOUL Philly community — we'll be counting on each other all the way. Join my Facebook group for the challenge to see recipes, articles, and comments throughout the month to stay on track. Remember if you feel good, it is good! Lets do this, SOUL!
