49 Post-Workout Winter Skincare Tips
January 31, 2016
ith dry air blowing, temperatures dropping and indoor heat cranking, wintertime can be rough on your skin. Learn how instructors protect their complexions all season long...
My post-workout skincare routine is pretty simple. I like to wash my face with Glamglow Supercleanse cleanser, and once a week I'll do a face mask (like Splendid Dirt from FarmHouse Fresh).
My skin care regimen is pretty simple. I just try to rinse and wash my face right after class and then I use my Clarisonic and Kiehl's Facial Fuel every night before bed!
Post-class, I wash my face with Fresh Umbrian Clay Scrub and follow it up with Caudalíe Vinoperfect Serum and tinted moisturizer sunscreen.
I use Lush tea tree oil spray — it’s so refreshing and cleansing!
1. I rinse my face with Kiehl's Ultra Facial cleanser. I love how foamy this cleanser gets and a little bit goes a long way!
2. Next I apply Kiehl's Ultra Facial toner once out of the shower to keep in moisture.
3. I used to use the regular Kiehl's Ultra Facial 24 Hour Moisturizing Cream, but since winter time hit, I've been using the Ultra Facial DEEP Moisturizing Cream. It hydrates around the clock without making my skin greasy.
4. If it's nighttime and I'm headed to bed, I like to massage in a few drops of Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate which has a lot of essential oils. I didn't use to think that this worked, but since I started using it my skin is glowing when I wake up the next morning!
5. Last but not least, you can't forget your lips! I always use the Kiehl's lip balm. It keeps my lips plump and protected!
I wash my face and always use lotion with SPF.
Post-workout, I usually don't have the time to shower straight away since I have to run to my next class or appointment scheduled. I do however, immediately cleanse my face and change into a fresh pair of clothes.
I use a facial cleanser from Lush called Movis — it's super easy because it's a cleansing bar and you can customize the amount since they cut it for you in store. You also pay by the weight! This is great because its easy to carry around and doesn't take up a lot of space. Afterwards I tone my face with a homemade tea tree toner (a great disinfectant)! After that, I apply a rich moisturizer from Lush called Skin Drink. A heavy moisturizer is crucial especially for those who need to wash their face multiple times a day, even more important during the winter months! To top it off, I mix my Clarins facial sunscreen, SPF 40 with my Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and put on mascara!
If I don't have time to shower, I wipe down my body with a moist towel sprayed with my homemade tea tree toner. I then apply a scented moisturizer which is always changing. Currently, I'm obsessing over Laura Mercier's Ambre Vanille Souffle Body Creme!!
I am simple since I have super sensitive skin. Immediately after class I wash my face with Cetaphil and use witch hazel as a toner. My moisturizer is pure coconut oil (which I also use on my hair!)
I always apply moisturizer to prevent drying out the skin. Raw shea or cocoa butter — or moisturizers with these components — are my go to because of the vitamins they contain and their restorative properties.

After every class I use Simple Foaming Face Wash and Simple Daily Moisturizer with SPF. It's important to get the sweat off right away, but all of that washing can dry your skin out, so I make sure to moisturize. It works! Last, but not least, WATER! Hydrate! It's just as important for your insides as it is your outsides!
No matter what, I have to hop in the shower. If I still have more classes left in the day, I will only go to the shower to rinse off... it helps mellow me out after giving everything in class. I then moisturize my body with the Aveeno moisturizer at the SOUL studios. For my face, I constantly thank the heavens for Madeleine Starkey, who turned me on to micellar water. It's a cleansing water-based solution that removes the oil from your skin, but allows the face to retain the water, thus not drying you out! I absolutely swear by it. I specifically use the Boots Botanics All Bright Cleansing Solution Micellar Water.
I try to keep it nice and easy and get back to looking as fresh as possible right after class or a long training run. I’ll do a once-over on my face with a Neutrogena makeup-removing cleansing cloth followed by a re-up of Olay Regenerist serum usually does the trick. I'll put on some Smashbox camera-ready BB cream if I'm feeling frisky (covers all your bases AND features SPF 35 sun protection).
After class I always use Burt’s Bees Sensitive Skin wipes. They clean my face without being too harsh. I also moisturize with either Kiehl's Facial Fuel (directly after class) or Baxter of California's Night Cream Aha (at night — duh). It’s important to keep your skin clean, but as much as I sweat, it's more important to moisturize!
My routine is pretty simple. If I have several classes throughout the day, I just wash my face and throw on clean clothes for the next class. When I'm done with my classes for the day, I take a shower right after a class and usually take a bath at night. I love taking detox baths to help flush out the toxins in the body — a detox bath is just a bath with Epsom salt and baking soda. I like to light some candles, listen to music and just relax. It's a nice way to unplug after a long day and it's really good for sore muscles!
I love using Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Oil-Free Face Wipes! If I'm not going straight to another class or to bed after teaching, I'll usually wear some Benefit “They're Real!" black mascara and Burt's Bees lip balm.
