MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

15 Fill-in-the-Blanks with Julia

nstructor JULIA BAGGISH shares how she starts her day, what she always puts in her grocery cart, where you can find her outside of SOUL and more…

1. The thing people are most surprised to hear about me is…

I am a science nerd. I am just finishing my master’s in biotechnology.

2. My mornings can't start without…
As of recent, a cup of coffee.

3. Everything is always better with…
Dolly Parton

4. The first thing I put in my grocery cart is…
Alkaline water (I hear myself saying this and I know, I’m so LA…)

5. No matter how old I am, I will always believe that…
People are inherently good. I wish life was black and white, but there are so many shades of grey. I believe that people are really doing the best they can everyday, and we have to have trust and faith in the good of humanity. Love more, judge less.

6. I’m currently reading…
I love reading. I always find it off-putting when someone doesn’t have books in their home. I’ve been reading a lot of poetry. I recently read Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur, Whiskey Words and a Shovel II by r.h. Sin and The Chaos of Longing by K.Y. Robinson. I am in the middle of You Are A Message by Guillaume Wolf. My all time favorite writers are Aldous Huxley and Evelyn Waugh.

7. I laugh every time…
My dad sends me a selfie.

8. I'd never be caught wearing…
I wear a whole hell of a lot of things. I think part of the joy of personal style is trying things. I have acrylic nails, and people ALWAYS comment on how much they love or hate them. The funny thing is, they aren’t for them at all, they’re for me and I love them! I would say a bandage dress, but I definitely wore one in the last six months for my friend's birthday in Vegas. It was a little tacky, but I felt great in it. Personal style is all about wearing and doing what makes you feel sexy and confident.

9. The wisest thing someone has said to me is…
Advocate for yourself. The time is now. It get’s so easy to worry about everyone else in our lives that we forget to chase our own dreams.

10. The weirdest thing I carry in my bag is…
I have literally three pairs of hoop earrings. One pair are gold bamboo hoops a nurse who gives me vitamin injections gave me, one are a pair of silver ones I bought for $2on Canal Street with my best friend, and one pair were given to me by my mom and made by Navajos. Sometimes when I feel boring I put them on and my mood and my look change instantly!

11. When I'm having a bad day…
I surround myself with people who I love. I read a book. I go to Erewhon. I call my mom or dad. I remind myself of all the blessings I have. I go for a hike. I try to remind myself of all of the things going my way when I hit a bump.

12. Outside of Soul, you can find me…
Outside in Las Virgenes Canyon, somewhere on the East side with my friends (where I would eventually like to land and buy my own home), or Erewhon.

13. The place I've always wanted to visit is…
Mongolia. I missed out on a chance to go in high school and I’ve regretted it ever since.

14. The mantra I live by is…
Anything is possible with hard work. I feel like I am living proof!

15. The reason I love SoCal is…
The sunshine. It is so hard to have a bad day when the sun is shining. LA is a bizarre city, but there’s so much to appreciate in the madness.
