Soul Instructors Reveal Their Summer Reading
June 5, 2015
What's on your summer reading list? 28 instructors share which titles they'll be diving into during this #summerofSOUL!
I am reading Thrive by Arianna Huffington.
You Are A Badass by Jenn Sincero
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
I'm currently reading Then Again by Diane Keaton… because I want to be her when I grow up.
The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes
Yes Please by Amy Poehler
I read New York magazine and Esquire when I'm soaking up those sunrays, and I'm a huge anthology junkie so I will make my way through the Best American Short Stories 2014 and Best American Essays 2014. (2015 isn't out yet!)
10% Happier by Dan Harris
Ulysses by James Joyce
The Story of a Marriage by Andrew Sean Greer — once my boyfriend finishes it.
JULIE ANNE QUAY
Every year, it's the same book because I am trying to be a better cook: The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook by Ina Garten.
Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll
Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed
Thrive by Arianna Huffington (for the train)
Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham (for the beach!)
The Empathy Exams by Leslie Jamison
The Brain That Changes Itself by Norman Doidge
Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck
Dataclysm: Who We Are (When We Think No One's Looking) by Christian Rudder (one of the four founders of OkCupid)
Charles Dubow's Girl in the Moonlight. And his first one from last year was excellent: Indiscretion. Yes, he's a dear friend and his editor is an original Soul rider, the brilliant Henry Ferris. That not withstanding, you don't want his books to end.
Any fantastical young adult fiction/series will get my attention. I will probably re-read the The Wicked Years series by Gregory McGuire.
Red Rising by Pierce Brown and The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor
Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
The Power by Rhonda Byrne
Men's Health magazine (on the Jitney)
1. You Are A Badass by Jenn Sincero
2. The Body Sculpting Bible for Women by James Villepigue and Hugo Rivera
I LIVE for my Kindle! I just finished The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins, recommended to me by Instructor Julie D. — I loved it and couldn't put it down! Next up is Wild by Cheryl Strayed.
The Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte
Yes Please by Amy Poehler and The Julian Chapter: A Wonder Story by R.J. Palacio
