Inside Charlotte's Soul Journey

Chestnut Hill instructor CHARLOTTE HITCH opens up about what first inspired her to clip in at SoulCycle, how it changed her life, and which mantra motivates her every day…

To this day I still can't remember why I decided to try SoulCycle. I had walked by various studios, hundreds, no, thousands of times while living in New York City — and never once had an urge to walk in.

That all changed one January day. I wish I could remember what I was thinking during my first class at Union Square; it's all a blur. However, the feeling I had walking back out into the cold city is something I will never forget: complete and absolute bliss. Grinning from ear to ear, sweating from head to toe, something remarkable had just happened to me and I was dying for more.

I rode whenever, wherever I could; before work, after work, dare I say during work (eeek!). I could not get enough. I had been working in the fashion industry for close to five years, a dream that I worked so hard to achieve, but something was not right. I didn't know what or how but something needed to change. Never once did I consider SoulCycle Instructor as that change.
Then one moment and everything changed. Another instructor mentioned the idea of auditioning to be an instructor and I was so surprised that I actually laughed. I "couldn't" do that, I wasn't "supposed" to do that. But, why not?
Fast forward to today, almost two years later, leaving NYC, moving to Boston, and I have never been happier. Being able to do what you love each and every day is truly a gift. While it's been one of the hardest things I have ever done, I have learned more about myself in the past two years than ever before. Every day I am inspired by the incredible strength and support that is SoulCycle, by the remarkable people that walk in and out of the studio.
In the past few months, I have found myself saying one phrase over and over again: "If you never try, you'll never know." The unknown is terrifying but it also can be exciting. Maybe it won't work out, but what if it does and it's something great? Well, if you never try, you'll never know.
