How R.C. Mills Lost 55 Pounds at SoulCycle

osing a bet first led R.C. MILLS to SoulCycle last summer — and he hasn’t looked back. Now 55 pounds lighter and feeling motivated to shed an additional 35, he talks to us about his inspiring SOUL journey…

What first brought you to SoulCycle?
Interestingly enough, I lost a bet with an NFL player and the result was I had to participate in SoulCycle classes for a week.

Wow! What was your first ride like?
My first ride was with Charlee. The music was amazing! It felt like a party although I was drenched in sweat.

What kept you coming back?
Inspiration, support, music and, in the words of the U.S. Army, “accomplishing more before 9:00 AM than most people do all day.”

How has SOUL impacted you?
In one word... elevate! The key for me was that I found within the second month of riding at SoulCycle, my mind was elevated to an entirely new level: My thoughts were clearer, cleaner and focused. In turn this allowed my body to react quickly to commands and engage effectively in dealing with stress in a more efficient manner. I noticed the changes within the first six to eight weeks of starting SoulCycle and that really motivated me to push myself even harder.

Do you have any favorite rides?
After several months of SoulCycle, I've developed close relationships with some amazing people, many who are dynamic ladies and have inspired me to grow, learn and embrace a sense of humility, passion and family. These same ladies inspired one of my greatest accomplishments in my life to date: the creation of my wine brand Popcorn Chardonnay! To know this all began with a bet I lost and evolved into an amazing family full of support, love and continued selflessness towards each other is absolutely amazing. I am happy to be at home among my SoulCycle family.

Any advice for others on similar journeys?
At times, life can be tough — not challenging, but tough! DON’T EVER GIVE UP! Think about this: Thousands of years ago, our ancestors had it tough and they survived in order for us to be here today. We are living proof of their existence thousands of years ago! This is how far we have come on this journey we call life; so if our ancestors survived such a tough past, imagine what we can do in our time.
