The cardio party starts today at SoulCycle East 54th Street — and the instructors leading the pack at our new NYC studio are fired up! What else keeps them motivated? Check out 14 mantras that keep them inspired on the bike and beyond…
"Welcome to how it goes."
I started saying this with one of my best friends recently because it reminds me that there’s no use complaining or being frustrated with a problem. You’ve got to just decide how to proceed and then do it because otherwise you’re just idling.
"There are only two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow, so today is the right day to love, believe, do, and mostly live."
Each day is a gift, that's why it's called the present. Don't dwell on things you can't change that have happened in the past and don't try to predict what will happen in the future. Just live for each and every single moment.
"It's better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for something you are not.” This reminds me to be me and every bit of ME. The good, bad, happy, sad, strong, weak, crazy… you've gotta be true to you!
The one and only Melanie Griffith said this in class once and it stuck with me forever: Be what you need. You need love? Be love. You need strength? Be strength.
I have two!
“Progress over perfection.” This is something I remind myself (and my riders) of daily. We are human. We are a full-time work-in-progress. It is OK to mess up, to make mistakes, and to struggle. This is how we learn, how we grow, and how we become stronger, better versions of ourselves. What matters is that we give our best and do our best, and let our desire to be BETTER push us further.
“I am.” Two simple words that have a profound meaning. I believe what’s more important are the words we choose to complete the phrase. We define who we are with our words. Saying “I am strong,” reminds me that I have the strength to push through a challenging or difficult time. “I am worthy” reminds me to never settle. “I am grateful” helps me to shift my focus to something I am thankful for during a time where I may find myself complaining. I usually choose the phrase that I need to be reminded of most in the present moment: “I am… enough. Happy. Limitless. Brave. Successful. Healthy. Inspired. Passionate. A Badass.” Not only do we get to choose who we are, but the words we choose to speak to ourselves have the power to affect our reality, moment to moment. What empowering word do you choose? “I Am _______.”
My mantra lately: “Show up for you and the rest will fall into place.”
My individual mantra is a combination of a bunch that speak to my heart and help me be the best me I can: "Breathe deep. Be present. Be creative. Live your life. Love your life. Dance through the bull#%^#.”
“DEVELOP PERSPECTIVE. RADIATE GRATITUDE."
Life is better when you focus your energy on being thankful for what you have as opposed to worrying about what you don't have. Chances are, there are a lot of people out there that wish they had your life, and that thought alone should help push you through difficult times.
I recently came across this quote that has been fuel for me lately: "The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away." So for me, daily motivation is sharing my gift with as many SOULS as possible.
"Always be willing to try what you want more than once."
I have been lucky enough to pursue a couple of careers that I am passionate about so far in my life and one truth remains constant. What you want the most usually takes more than one try to have.
"Decide that you can...and you will!" When we believe in ourselves wholeheartedly and undoubtedly, we are capable of accomplishing anything we decide to do.
"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude.” - Maya Angelou
Just a reminder that there is always a path to finding your happiness. If it doesn't come from going right...go left!
“Give your all everyday that you wake up because tomorrow is not granted.”
I live by this because I take advantage of every minute that life has to give. You learn so much about life each and everyday. Time is valuable and I do not let one minute sneak past me.
