The Snack That Could Help You Live Longer

Eating just 11 almonds a day could extend your life… 

Need another reason to snack on nuts before or after a ride at SoulCycle? The fiber-filled food not only satisfies your hunger in one simple handful, but new research suggests that eating nuts regularly can help you live longer.

Yup, a recent study from the International Journal of Epidemiology finds that tree nuts and peanuts can cut your risk of death from diseases such as cancer and diabetes.

Scientists looked at the consumption of nut and peanut butter among more than 120,000 men and women between the ages of 55 and 69, compared their eventual mortality rates, then crunched the numbers.

Their findings? Those who ate at least 10 grams of nuts a day (which is about 11 almonds or eight cashews or two-thirds of a tablespoon of peanut butter) reduced their rate of mortality from the aforementioned ailments by 23 percent! Previous research has shown that nuts also help ward off diseases that affect the brain and lungs.

So get crackin'! Down some nuts to curb your hunger and keep you healthy.
