The Best Protein-Packed Smoothie to Fuel Your SOUL and Summer

hat if there was a smoothie that not only helped your body refuel and recover after your favorite SoulCycle class but also kept those endorphins going so you felt energized and happy all day? Montauk Juice Factory co-founder MADI MURPHY is here with the recipe.

I created this super simple recipe because I wanted to find a way to not only help maximize the effects of my morning ride physically, but mentally as well. We all know how invincible we feel when we unclip after a great ride and this smoothie will help ensure we feel that way well into the day — ready to conquer whatever's ahead.

This delicious chocolatey drink is brimming with nutrition from healthy fats, omega-3s, clean protein, and fiber to build lean muscle, restore energy to the body and increase satiety. And the superfood cacao is included to naturally elevate your mood and boost your spirits. Not only is cacao (the bean-like seed from which we get chocolate) delicious, it’s also high in tryptophan, which increases serotonin levels in the brain.

The nourishing smoothie also features tryptophan-rich pumpkin seeds and medium-chain triglycerides derived from coconut — fats that keep your brain oxygenated, healthy, and happy!

Studies show protein is key for quick post-workout recovery, but in order for it to be effective, we must choose a clean protein that is easily worked into our system, like this vegan pea protein powder. You can also substitute a high-quality natural grass-fed whey protein if you prefer. Paired with gluten-free rolled oats, which are low on the glycemic index, this recipe is formulated to build lean muscle, keep blood sugar levels steady, and leave you feeling energized and full well into the day. It gives me so much energy that I pour it into a mug as a replacement for my morning coffee!

We all know eating healthy can be hard in these busy summer months when your days are jam-packed and you’re always on the go. It's easy to reach for processed snacks that end with a sugar crash that affects both your body and your brain. The best way to prevent this is to have a tool kit of easy and satisfying recipes like this on hand.

• ½ frozen banana
• 1 cup almond milk
• 3 tablespoons gluten-free oats
• 1½ tablespoons pea protein powder
• 1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds
• 1 tablespoon MCT oil
• 1 tablespoon raw cacao
• 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
• Pinch of Pink Himalayan Sea Salt

  1. Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender. Blend on high for 30-60 seconds or until smooth. Add some water if you prefer a thinner consistency. Add some ice if you prefer a thicker consistency. Top with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Serving size: 1
