13 Food Trends Instructors Are Obsessed With
November 19, 2015
From Kombucha drinks to green juices, check out 13 healthy food trends our instructors can't get enough of...
My favorite right now is almond butter acai bowls from Juice Generation or Liquiteria! They're so good!
Kale! Preferably in the form of home-made baked chips. Drizzle some olive oil and sprinkle some salt, pop in the oven on 275 degrees and you've got a delicious healthy crunch to add to any meal.
I pretty much just follow the paleo lifestyle and don't really pay attention to the various trends.
FLAX SEEDS!!! Why?
• Omega-3 essential fatty acids, "good" fats that have been shown to have heart-healthy effects. Each tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains about 1.8 grams of plant omega-3s.
• Lignans, which have both plant estrogen and antioxidant qualities. Flaxseed contains 75 to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods.
• Fiber. Flaxseed contains both the soluble and insoluble types.
Green juices. I love them after class!
My favorite healthy food trend: KALE!
Plan to have your largest meal right in the middle of the day, full of nutrient dense and filling foods. This will fuel your body for when you are most active and cut down on cravings when you're on the go. Need food ideas? Search #eattherainbow on Instagram.
My favorite healthy food trend has to be zoodles (zucchini noodles)! My roommates and I make them all the time, and they perfectly take the place of pasta in any dish. My favorites are shrimp scampi zoodles or zucchini pad Thai. All you need is a Julienne peeler and you're in business!
I'm loving avocados! In-between classes, I'll cut one open and eat it as is!
My favorite healthy food trend is a plant-based diet and lifestyle! The best nutrients come straight from earth — cut out the animal products, cut out the middle man and go right to the plants!! YUM!
My favorite healthy food trend would be almond butter... on ANYTHING. Well, really just apples and bananas :)
When I moved from NYC to Chicago, I decided to change up my diet a bit to better accommodate the physically demanding aspects of being an instructor. For the past five months, I have been dairy-free. I can honestly say that I feel a lot lighter (bonus: my skin has significantly cleared up!) lighter throughout the day. It's not too difficult of a lifestyle to maintain as most restaurants, cafes, etc. have plenty of dairy alternatives. I will admit, though, that this choice isn't conducive to the constant temptation of deep dish pizza in Chicago!
Juices from Juice Shop and Pressed Juicery (although you have to stay mindful of the sugar intake!)
