JOSH BUILDER, Chief Technology Officer
Hometown: Cross River, New York
First time I ever used a computer: 1987 (Tandy 1000 sx)
Best part about my job is: The immense opportunity for technology to drive SoulCycle forward.
Something most people don’t know about SOUL TECH is: Noon on Mondays is a really big deal.
Favorite at-my-desk lunch: Buddha Bodai on Mott Street
Outside of work, you can find me: In Brooklyn.
App or site I use most: techmeme.com
Personal hero: H.H. Dalai Lama

MAXWELL GLANTZMAN, Manager of Software Engineering
Hometown: Southold, New York
Years at SOUL: 3 years
First time I ever used a computer: My dad was always a computer guy. We had a Commodore 64 (educator edition with built-in monochrome monitor!) in my house and I remember playing Asteroids on it. I think that was my first time using a computer.
Best part about your job: Mondays at noon! Just kidding. It’s great to work on a project with so many passionate users. We regularly receive feedback and have the ability to iterate and continue to make the site and the app better for our riders. Also, not that it's unique to my job here, but I love working somewhere where I personally love the product and use it almost daily.
Something most people don’t know about SOUL TECH is: That we exist? There is a lot of technology behind the app, the website, and the internal systems used at the front desk and in our corporate office and nearly all of it is maintained by our (small) team. These folks do amazing work every single day with technology in an effort to eliminate it as a hurdle to getting you on your bike as easily as possible.
Favorite at-my-desk lunch: I should pick one but I really alternate between two opposites. I love sushi and I love fried chicken.
Outside of work, you can find me: As much as I love riding bikes inside, I also enjoy the outdoor variety. I am a huge live music fan so finding me at shows is pretty easy.
App or site I use most: Seamless, Uber, and SoulCycle of course. :)
Personal hero: It’s cliche to say but my parents are my heroes. They have supported pretty much anything I ever imagined myself doing and have shown incredible perseverance through some tough times of their own. I am grateful for them every day.

MEG DUESTERDICK, Senior Manager of Product Strategy
Hometown: Niskayuna, New York
Years at SOUL: A little over three
First time I ever used a computer: 1st grade computer class. Navigating the Oregon Trail was one of my best subjects.
Best part about my job is: The opportunity to work with almost every department at SoulCycle in some capacity. It's a lot of fun to partner with other teams to come up with creative tech solutions to achieve business goals and create amazing tech products for our riders.
Something most people don’t know about SOUL TECH is: We are growing like crazy! We've gone from being a 1 person team to a full fledged department with plans to double by next year.
Favorite at-my-desk lunch: This month my go to is the Westville Kale Salad
Outside of work, you can find me: Most days, you'll still find me at a SoulCycle studio taking class. Aside from Soul, I love taking weekend trips to visit friends and am constantly on the pursuit of finding the best dumpling in NYC.
App or site I use most: The SoulCycle App (obviously) and Instagram (basic)
Personal heroes: My parents!! My dad for being the hardest working person I know and my mom for being the most selfless person I know.

STEPHANY SHIGEKUNI, Front end web developer
Hometown: Anaheim, California
Years at SOUL: 1 year
Best part about my job is: The insane/fun SoulCycle culture.
Something most people don’t know about SOUL TECH is: We are not IT, and I don't have the wifi password.
Favorite at-my-desk lunch: Butternut squash soup from Hale and Hearty
Outside of work, you can find me: Most likely taking a SoulCycle class
App or site I use most: stackoverflow.com
Personal hero: My grandmother :)

JON PETERSON, UX Designer
Hometown: Aledo, Illinois
First computer: I don't know the exact date but in the early 90s, so I was probably about 6.
Best part about my job is: Getting to be both creative and analytical/strategic.
Something most people don’t know about SOUL TECH is: We're not IT. We can't (or won't) fix your computer for you.
Favorite at-my-desk lunch: Probably something from Dig Inn or sweetgreen
Outside of work, you can find me: In the gym or at a speakeasy bar
App or site I use most: I'm a huge fantasy football nerd, so probably the ESPN app/website.
Personal hero: People are people. Individual actions may be heroic but people themselves shouldn't be put on pedestals. If I had to pick a person I'd like to model my life after though, it would probably be Hemingway.

TARIQ CHAUDRY, Software Engineer
Hometown: Smithtown, New York
First computer: When I was about 5, I owned a Commodore 64.
Best part about my job is: Fun-loving people
Something most people don’t know about SOUL TECH is: We have more than 370,000 lines of PHP and Javascript code in our repository.
Favorite at-my-desk lunch: Greek Salad
Outside of work, you can find me: On a yoga mat
App or site I use most: Yelp
Personal hero: Carl Jung

JOEL MIELE, QA Manager
Hometown: Howard Beach, Queens
Best part about my job is: Eventually it does itself!
Something most people don’t know about SOUL TECH is: Anyone can test out new features before they go live on the QA environment.
Favorite at-my-desk lunch: Faicco's Italian hero
Outside of work, you can find me: At home or at a bar watching a Rangers game
App or site I use most: Reddit
Personal hero: My grandfather

JONATHAN SIRLIN, Associate Product Manager
Hometown: New Rochelle, New York
First time I ever used a computer: At 9 years old. I modified my computer to play the Star Wars theme when it booted up. My parents were terrified.
Best part about my job: Helping to build awesome tools that actively make peoples' lives better. And getting yelled at by Janet!
Something most people don’t know about SOUL TECH is: We are a crowd of ardent riders!
Favorite at-my-desk lunch is: Post-ride Thai food from Arbor Bistro.
Outside of work, you can find me: Writing theme music for games, podcasts, and hopefully some TV soon!
App or site I use most: It's a tie!: Imgur and the NYTimes Crossword App.
Personal hero: John Williams (...and Janet)

JOHN DUPRE, Senior Product Manager
Hometown: Washed ashore onto Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
First computer: I am a computer.
Best part about my job is: “Dogfooding" the product means getting an amazing workout!
Favorite at-my-desk lunch is: Fried chicken sandwich from Better Being Underground .
Outside of work, you can find me: Backcountry camping, coffee pressing, bourbon sipping.
App or site I use most: Steam.
Personal heroes: All the staff at my favorite studios! (WVLG, BKHT, BURG)

STEVE KOMAE, Full Stack Web Developer
Hometown: I’m from New York City. I’ve never been able to leave, but there’s pretty much nothing that New York City can’t cater to, so I don’t mind having never left.
First Computer: The first time I ever used a computer was in elementary school, it was a Macintosh back in the days where Apple was “probably going out of business any time now” and we spent a lot of time with KidPix and HyperCard. I always like to think that I got into software because HyperCard opened the doors to building interactivity.
Best part about my job: Definitely being able to go ride SoulCycle classes in the afternoon. I try to ride nearly every day. It’s a nice break for my brain, helps keep me in top cardio shape, and is just plain fun! Probably the second best thing about working here is that we’ve got a lot of young people with a lot of energy and nobody wants to just collect their paycheck and go home. I hate to sound all promotional, but seriously, the Soul crew is smart, fun-loving, and real team players who are always ready to pitch in.
Most people don’t know that Soul Tech: Likes to ride on the roads, outside, on moving bicycles. Half of our team enjoys commuting to the office on our bikes. We also enjoy getting together outside of work, just to hang out.
Favorite at-my-desk lunch: It’s probably a tie between a good salad from SweetGreen or Dirty Bird fried chicken. I feel like switching it up between buttermilk fried chicken and a healthy salad is a good dichotomy that keeps lunch interesting. There was definitely a stint where I ordered fried chicken every day for a week.
Outside of work, you’d find me: In the mountains where there’s no cell reception and it’s hopefully raining, sleeting or snowing. I do a lot of cycling, backpacking, camping and ice climbing, and only one of those isn’t improved by a heavy dose of precipitation. I have a rule that my personal time stays as computer-free as possible because I feel that being immersed in technology 24/7 is not a healthy lifestyle.
App I use most: I am on NewsBlur and Facebook all the time. Newsblur is what Google Reader would have been if it hadn’t gotten discontinued years back and as a voracious reader being on these two services keeps me on the firehose of information and current news. Facebook is great for reading, of course, just because it’s what your friends find interesting.
Personal hero: Les Stroud, aka Survivorman. What most people don’t know is that he did all of the music, shooting, storyboarding and narration himself for his show. This guy is surviving in the woods with his harmonica and a multitool for a week, simultaneously walking around about 50 pounds of camera gear. That’s pretty crazy. He also lives in a house that he built himself on sustainable principles and skis his kids to school. I met him once in real life. Nice, down-to-earth guy.

ALEX MENDOZA, Senior Systems Administrator
Hometown: West New York, New Jersey
Years at SOUL: 1 1/2 years
First time I ever used a computer: Grammar school computer class.
Best part about my job is:  Ability to see changes improve performance.
Something most people don’t know about SOUL TECH is: We use mostly open source software.
Favorite at-your-desk lunch: Vien's brown rice with slow cooked pork.
Outside of work, you can find me: Walking the dog and trying to make furniture.
App or site I use most: Instagram/ESPN Soccernet website.
Personal hero: Steve Jobs
