SOUL City Guide: DC
January 20, 2017
eading to the nation's capital? DC instructor Kate Champagne "KC" shared her favorite spots to eat, shop and see throughout the city...
BRUNCH SPOT: Le Diplomate (1601 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20009)
A few blocks from the 14th Street studio, this French brasserie is in the heart of the super-cute 14th Street corridor and it never disappoints. I go just about every week with my dad or girlfriends and indulge in French pastries and Le Burger. Bon appétit!
POST-SOUL SNACK: South Block (3210 Grace St NW, Washington, DC 20007)
Just around the corner from the GTWN studio is an urban oasis for pressed juices, fresh shakes. (I like the Peanut Blast whey protein shake) and amazing acai creations.
ZEN SPACE: Bliss Spa at the W Hotel (W Washington D.C., 515 15th St NW, Washington, DC 20004)
Whether or not you indulge in a spa treatment, take the elevator to the rooftop and peep one of the best views of the District.
STRETCH: Georgetown Yoga (2805 M St NW, Washington, DC 20007) or Dupont Circle Yoga 2032 P St NW, Washington, DC 20036
No frills, no heat, and no yoga or meditation experience needed to enjoy a really peaceful flow lead by kind and knowledgeable teachers. This is where I get my zen on.
SPLURGE: City Center.
A few blocks from SoulCycle's Mount Vernon studio is a big shiny retail oasis with shops like Hermes, Ferragamo and Dior. #treatyoself
SOUL FOOD: Union Market (1309 5th St NE, Washington, DC 20002)
Food vendors and artisans from all over come together in a warehouse-like market with culinary offerings that span continents and cultures under one roof.
INDULGE IN A SWEET TREAT: Georgetown Cupcake (3301 M St NW, Washington, DC 20007)
Georgetown Cupcakes always gets my vote (Vanilla2 is my favorite) although some would argue Baked&Wired wins. You decide!
SCENIC JOG: Everywhere
One of the best ways to tour the monuments of our nation's capitol is on foot. A roughly three mile jog (or stroll) can take you from the Lincoln Memorial through the World War II Memorial and to the Washington Monument.
COCKTAILS AND CHAMPAGNE: Quadrant Bar at the Ritz Carlton (1150 22nd St NW, Washington, DC 20037)
Across the street from the West End studio is the iconic Ritz and its hidden gem of a lobby bar — my favorite place for a civilized evening cocktail. Post up at the bar counter or in one of the cozy armchairs and say hi to the person sitting next to you —just like we do in class.
