Courier Championships

This weekend, master instructor KYM PERFETTO raced in the North American Cycle Courier Championships riding for the Mess Kollective Team (sponsored by SoulCycle)! Bike messengers from around the US came to race on a motorcycle track with sections of mud and an off-the-bike tire obstacle. Both Kym and Mess-racer Heather qualified for the finals and endured 3 hours of racing in the rain! According to Kym, "It always rains for championship races- I mean REALLY. Austin has had a drought till today." But the ladies rocked it out, as evidenced by the pictures below. Congrats Kym and Heather!

Racers Ready!  Competitors were given a list of stops and a deadline and had to find the best route to complete the job.

Kym's own description of the race:

Ouch. The race took a little under 3 hours for us. 19 laps of the course and after only 3, my front wheel blew out during a dead sprint and I crashed. Heather passed me and I tried to shake it off and get back on my bike til I realized both wheels were bent. A spectator lent me his bike so I could continue! The torrential rain held off mostly so it wasn't too wet during the race but it was slick. I was glad to be able to finish the race at least- even if the bike was big for me. Overall I finished 26th overall and Heather got 22nd  & 3rd place female.

After-party was fun. Austin is a great town!
